Project: Stanhope Industrial Park, Stanford-le-Hope
Client: House Builder
Contract Value: £18,000
Knight Environmental Limited was contracted to assess the potential environmental liabilities associated with a derelict industrial site and former chemical plant located on the Thames Estuary.
The work included an extensive desk study in accordance with Contaminated Land Research (CLR) report 3 which was the basis of the design of the geo-environmental site investigation.
The investigation was carried out in March and April 2004. The client was provided with a detailed report that comprised:-
An updated account of the environmental data available for the site including details of the site history, local geology, hydrogeology and geography, together with an indication of potential environmental sensitivities.
A review of potential contamination issues on the site.
An assessment of the ground conditions at the site including potential distribution of chemical impaction of soils and groundwater and soil gas.
A quantitative risk assessment evaluating the potential risk posed by elevated levels of contaminants encountered during the site investigation.
Characterisation of the geotechnical properties of the geological strata including recommendations for foundation design and ground works.
Remedial and geotechnical recommendations for the site.
The site investigation was undertaken in accordance with British Standards 5930:1999 and 10175:2000 and confirmed that, in spite of the site’s industrial history, the soil and groundwater were not significantly impacted by any of the likely contaminants associated with its past.
The report assisted significantly with the re-sale of the land which imparted confidence to potential buyers that the site was now in a better condition than was previously perceived.
